(Nhan Dan) The 7th Cambodia - Laos - Myanmar - Vietnam Summit was held in Nay Pyi Taw, capital city of Myanmar, in the afternoon of June 22th with the participation of leaders of 4 countries: Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Vietnam union representatives attended the meeting and contributed significantly to the success of this summit.
At the summit, the leaders reaffirmed the neighboring friendship and cooperation tradition of mutual benefit between the four countries of Cambodia, Laos-Myanmar-Vietnam, committed to promoting the interests of peace in Southeast Asia, stability and prosperity. The meeting is focused on reviewing the situation of the past 2 years and leaders discuss ways of cooperation in the coming period.
The leaders highly appreciate the achievements in all areas of cooperation that helps narrow the development gap within ASEAN and contributes positively to the process of forming the ASEAN Community by the end of this year. The annual scholarship program that Vietnam offered to students of Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar and Vietnam is highly appreciated and the three other countries’ leaders want Vietnam to propose implementation of this program in the coming years.
Regarding future cooperation, the leaders agreed to pass the CLMV program in economic and trade fields for the coming year; facilitate trade and investment through bilateral and multilateral agreements, extending the performance of one-door one-stop at the international border between the countries; maximizing the potential of economic corridors such as East-West and Southern transnational economic corridors; develop policies to encourage investment in agriculture, industry and energy; make Subregion CLVM a top tourist destination of the world.
The meeting also recommended the ASEAN countries and development partners to join the implementation of development projects within the framework of CLMV.
Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said that, looking back over 10 years, the CLMV cooperation has been achieving remarkable results in many fields such as economy, trade, tourism, customs , transport connections and the economic corridor ..., contributing significantly support to members and narrowing the development gap within ASEAN.
The formation of the ASEAN Economic Community and the structural shift of the major economies in the region opens up vast development space with many opportunities and challenges intertwined. Located at the crossroads of connectivity between Southeast Asia and the broad market as China, India and Japan, with the “gold-aged” labor force, abundant resources and a market size nearly of 190 million people, the CLMV countries have great potential to move further  and become a region of dynamic growth of ASEAN.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stressed that to take this opportunity, the most important thing is to improve the competitiveness of the CLMV economy, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has proposed a number of priority cooperation for four countries in the near future. He has also proposed some priority task for future cooperation of the four countries, which is to increase connectivity and infrastructure, and improving the quality of human resources to serve industrialization and integration of the supply chain and the global area. Third is to advance the work of information dissemination about the potential competitive advantage of the CLMV countries, new business opportunities from the reforms being undertaken.
"I once again reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Vietnam for CLMV cooperation and want four countries to continue to closely cooperate to successfully implement and strengthen the cooperation programs for sustainable development of each country, for peace, stability and prosperity of the entire region", Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said.
At the meeting, the leaders adopted a Joint Declaration of the Conference and agreed to hold 8th CLMV Summit in Vietnam in 2016.
Speaking on Vietnam to hold the 8th CLMV Summit, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung emphasized, assuming the role of CLMV coordinating cooperation in next stage is not only an honor, but also the great responsibility for Vietnam. This is an important point that 4 countries should strengthen cooperation to seize opportunities and take advantage of new development, shorten the development gap in ASEAN countries. On the basis of the achievements, we will focus on the effective implementation of cooperation programs in order to improve competitiveness and strengthen economic links between the CLMV countries. "Vietnam will try it best to make efforts to implement this important success," Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has also announced plans of Vietnam in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to hold a business forum for dialogue senior about Mekong Sub-region during 8th CLMV Summit/.
